Hegartys Auction Rooms secure Ellison collection

Selection of Oriental lots at Hegartys Auction Rooms

Following on the recent discovery and very successful sale of the Sackville House collection of the early slide photographs, Hegarty Auction Rooms in Bandon have been favoured with the dispersal of  an important oriental collection. The late Georgette Ellison, wife of a U.S. General procured the items in the Orient, post World War II, while they were stationed overseas.

Items of interest to collectors will be Japanese netsuke, Satsuma, jade, furniture, cloissoné, bronze enamel and furnishings as well as Japanese porcelain and jade from the Ching dynasty and jade possibly from the Han dynasty.

Of particular interest will be an exquisite silver & lacquer smoking companion set presented by Hirohito/Emperor Showa to Mrs Ellison.  All the items carry low or no reserves.

Also included in the sale is a suite of Irish Regency furniture consigned to the Auction rooms from East Cork, this includes a set of rare simulated rosewood and a set of eight brass inlaid dining chairs, circular mahogany and crossbanded dining table and a Cork two door library bookcase.

Various other estates make up the remainder of the 350 lot auction and include a large selection of Georgian, Victorian & Edwardian occasional furniture, card tables, early 20th century bedroom suite, mid 19th century giltwood overmantle mirror, a one-owner collection of Irish Art (30 pieces) to be sold without reserve, Irish silver (20 lots).

The Ellison collection having been consigned from West Cork presents a wonderful opportunity for the discerning collector.

The Auction will take place on Sunday, 24th July 2011 at Hegarty’s Auction Rooms in Bandon at 4pm, viewing Friday 22nd 11-5pm, Saturday 23rd 11-5pm and Sunday, day of sale, from 12 noon to 4pm when auction starts.
